I dont think its fundamental in terms of power because Athlon II X4 635 seems to be on pair with i3 550 while the energy consumation is almost same in idle. Different reviews...different results unfortunately.

I really dont know what that guy had to make to his system but what he shows there as 20 W is hard to trust. Just try to count what motherboard, chipset, CPU, power supply and memory takes while being idle. He had to underclock and undervolt system a lot because even at usual know IT website the i3 idle vary from 60-80Watts. He also use special Pico power supply. I would like to see such a test with AMD.

Here is idle almost same for AMD and i3 simillar solutions.

The X4 might be more future proof because of 4 core and more and more programs will be much better written to take advantage for 2+ and more cores. Most program nowdays utilize 2 cores very efficiently while with 3 and more cores its not so good as it should be probably.

I think the view may vary. I am not funboy of anything as I run also notebook on Intel (except my desktop) which is much better then any AMD solution.

The APU from AMD seems to be really nice solution and the total power system consumation will be real deal. I really dont know what DeadWolfBones will do on his system. If its really just watching films, browsing net and some semi power hungry work then AMD APU might be better in terms of electric bills and initial system investemens.

If there are other purposes then i3 from Intel might be better.

wait a couple of days for that official AMD APU platform reviews. It should pop-up in few days so I would make the decision after that. I dont think you are in needs to hurry somewhere at the moment, do you?

I meant they have been able to find solution how to accelarate video in flash over GPU. You trying to teach me like a small kid

Again...with GPU accelaration and I am not talking about video decoding engine you are more flexible nowdays. The GPU in AMD APU has enough power to accelarate even some new format.

Yes AMD E-350 with integrated GPU has UVD3 video engine which accelarate xvid/divx as well.

I guess the heatsink on the i7 CPU was quite big

Yeh, I agree about the different preferences when builduing HTPC.

With GPU accelaration nowdays I dont think any new format matter much. Look at flash accelaration. None of graphic cards have been developed in mind with that yet it working. I really would not be worried about that and by the time any new format will pop-up both machine will be obsolate.

Both solutions have PCI-E card slot so you can always upgrade. However Intel is very known for very bad driver support for any of integrated graphic cards. That`s fact unfortunately.

I really like about the AMD solution the fanless option.

You dont need to invest to monitor right now and what are you current PC spec? We went oftopic a lot thought...this should be about LFS

Beside what has the 3D engine with simulation :-))

it will be "realistic" in simulating a lot of aspects. The physics model is hower another part but still...racing/driving simulation should take together all parts. LFS is very,very good in physic aspec while it loose in others a lot...

yes, thats migt be true but I doubt you could make the CPU funless. I consider HTPC to be as much quiet as possible. Beside that the AMD solution would be in US I bet around 50-100 dollars cheaper.

No need to spend 1000 pounds on PC just to make it running. Its not that taxing.

I think its quite overkill for HTPC. If you want to use it mostly for net browsing on big sreen and film wathing then go with AMD APU CPUs. I think you should be able to purchase these motherboards with CPU no more then in a month.

Completly silent, Bluetooh & Wifi included, HDMI output., etc....

However its your choise ofcourse. Just trying to tell you my view on that...

Is not the purpose of HTPC to be queit. How you want to make it with such a CPU which consume 73W and discrete graphic you meantiod which wont be queit neither.

the LFS 3D engine is nothing spectacular even its serve its purpose(I dont mean it like offence but real fact) but I still would like to know from Scawen a bit inside around which DirectX version the 3D core is built and what other part sDirectX extension/features it use or any other details he would like to tell us.

It would be really nice to get some real inside a bit...

I was hoping to get some "future" plans if the 3D engine will going be rewritten but with current kind of feedback we get I think its kind of utopia....anyway. There is nothing to loose by asking.

Typical case unfortunately. It will sound hard but at that stage those girls are usually so vulnerable that its easy to get them for one night stand and thats all what you will have it from. Just maybe a good friend.
